US singer and songwriter Chris Brown has been arrested in Paris following a rape accusation, police said today.
French officials said Brown and two others are in custody after a woman filed a rape allegation in northwest Paris, CNN reports.
The R&B singer is accused of raping a woman in a five star hotel after meeting her in a nightclub.
Brown was detained on Tuesday on potential charges of aggravated rape and drug infractions, a French judicial official said. Investigators have two days to decide whether to let him go or file preliminary charges.
One of Brown’s bodyguards was among those detained, according to a Paris police official.
The woman who filed the complaint said she met Brown and his friends at the club Le Crystal in the 17th arrondissement of north-western Paris on Wednesday and went to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel near the Concorde Plaza, according to the official.
She added that Breezy invited her into the hotel with another woman, but she ended ended up in a single room with the singer where she claimed she was raped.
Prosecutors in the French capital confirmed that the 29-year-old faced criminal charges after the alleged sex attack a week ago.
“He is accused of a rape and is being held at the judicial police offices in the 1st arrondissement,” said a prosecuting source.
“He was arrested with two others on Monday, and interviews and other enquiries are ongoing. The offence is said to have taken place on the night of January 15 this year.”
